Farmers Weekly’s Level the Field campaign will focus on neurodiversity in 2025. We begin with the first ever nationwide survey on the topic. The landmark survey, carried out by Farmers Weekly, found that the number of people with neurodiverse conditions in farming may be more than double the rate than in the general population. More than one-third of respondents to the research (36%) said they considered themselves to be neurodivergent, with a further one-quarter (25%) unsure.

Liz Haines © Nuffield Scholarship Staffordshire dairy farmer Liz Haines is on a mission to raise awareness about neurodiversity in the agricultural community, and hopes her speaking slot at the Oxford Farming Conference (OFC) will help her do just that. The term neurodiversity encompasses a range of neurological differences, including dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and more.

As part of her recent Budget, chancellor Rachel Reeves redefined agricultural funding for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, consolidating it within each region’s broader block grant using the Barnett formula, rather than maintaining separate, ring-fenced allocations.

Defra secretary Steve Reed has gone to war with the NFU, insisting it is wrong to claim that up to 75% of small farms could be affected by Labour’s inheritance tax (IHT) changes. In an interview with Farmers Weekly on Tuesday 19 November, Mr Reed again defended his government’s IHT changes for farms, describing the measures as “fair and proportionate”.

Together with fourteen organisations from across the sector, Farmers Weekly has written to a series of companies which manufacture workwear, PPE and other equipment to urge them to develop more products suitable for women.
