    NAROWAL: Farmers have begun burning rice crop residue, with flames rising in the fields and clouds of smoke reaching the sky. The district administration has completely failed to prevent this practice, as farmers in the three tehsils of Shakargarh, Zafarwal and Narowal continue to set fire to crop remnants. The burning can be seen from a distance, with smoke visible for hundreds of metres.

    NAROWAL: The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has started construction on the Hindu temple of Baoli Sahib in Zafarwal, marking the first phase of reconstruction after 64 years. A budget of Rs10 million has been allocated for the construction of the temple’s boundary wall. Currently, there are no functional Hindu temples in Narowal district, forcing Hindu families to perform their religious rituals at home or travel to temples in Sialkot and Lahore.

    NAROWAL: Both the Shakargarh Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital and private hospitals in the area have reportedly begun dumping prohibited medical waste on public garbage heaps. This practice violates the Punjab Healthcare Commission’s (PHC) standard operating procedures (SOPs). Syringes, drip sets, medicine bottles and other toxic waste can be seen scattered on the garbage heap outside the THQ Hospital.

    Dawn NAROWAL: The Gujranwala Police launched a pilot project, Pink Wheels, with the support of chamber of commerce and industry to provide protection to women. Under the project, a special response unit, consisting of women police personnel, has been formed to respond to the abuse of women and their other issues. Ten Pink Wheels scooters have been purchased to be used by women officers in the response unit teams.
