NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Last Friday, Nov. 22, Hocking College held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new project called The Rescue Kitchen, part of the college’s Hospitality and Culinary Center. The project is intended to address food insecurity and reduce food waste. It “will serve as a center for food recovery, culinary education, and sustainable community support, thus transforming surplus food into nutritious meals,” according to a Hocking College press release.

SOUTHEAST OHIO — The Survivor Advocacy Outreach Program has funded construction of 11 new homes in local communities, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, SAOP Interim Director Madison Trace told the Independent. Last Friday, Nov. 22, the project partners held dedication ceremonies for the first two of the newly constructed homes in Glouster and Langsville (Meigs County), presenting keys to the families who will live there.

ATHENS, Ohio — A loom at the Athens Public Library stands ready for community participation. The loom is part of the library’s Arts in October programming. Dennis Miller, a weaver who built the loom, is present Monday through Friday from noon to 2 p.m. to provide demonstrations and instructions for weaving using the loom. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the process.
