After years of attending Pitchfork Music Festival as a guest, Chicago-area singer, songwriter and poet Kara Jackson will take stage there for the first time on Saturday. Pitchfork Music Festival returns to Chicago’s Union Park this weekend, with headliners including Alanis Morissette, Jamie xx and Black Pumas. The lineup also features a handful of locally-based acts, including the Oak Park-rooted Jackson.

In 2021, Miriam Paz was the only female DJ performing at the first Sueños Music Festival. This weekend she’s returning for the festival’s third year — she’s one of the event’s “official” DJs — and presiding over a lineup that spotlights more female performers than ever. Returning to Grant Park on May 25 and 26, Sueños Music Festival is Chicago’s largest event highlighting Latin music, with headliners Rauw Alejandro, Peso Pluma and Maluma.

Lovers and Friends Chicago is a queer event for those 30 and up looking to have a good time. Founded by friends and business partners Yoly Rojas and Keli Knight in 2023, Lovers and Friends aims to create space for Black and Brown lesbians and queer people, especially over the age of 30, to meet and foster community. “It really started from wanting it to be what we like, and then just seeing, ‘Okay, what are people missing? What do people want?’” Knight reflected.
