AbstractThe stress response is highly conserved across species, and increased glucocorticoid release (cortisol in fishes) is a key element. In the highly social cichlid fish, Burton's Mouthbrooder (Astatotilapia burtoni), stress axis activity is associated with juvenile social behavior and status, and it mediates early-life social effects, yet little is known about early-life stress physiology. We measured water-borne cortisol, a non-invasive method, in juveniles less than 1-week old.

According to a senior British diplomat, British young people’s poor language skills played a role in the UK’s decision not to stay in the Erasmus+ European student exchange programme after Brexit. “There’s always been an imbalance between our inability to speak languages very well and therefore to take advantage of the outward mobility opportunities, and people wanting to come to the UK,” Nick Leake told a committee meeting in Brussels, as reported by news site Politico.

Despite this, the number of pupils taking a modern foreign language stands at less than 60% of those that did in the peak year of 2001.
