RANGELEY — The RSU #78 Board of Education met on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School. Board Chair Dr. Mary Richards welcomed two new student representatives, AuDrey Sutherland (class of 2027) and Natalie Alves (class of 2027), along with returning student representative Nichole Lemay (class of 2025). Dr. Richards also shared that Karen Seaman will step into the role of Vice Chair.

The RSU 78 Board of Education met on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School. The meeting opened with a presentation from middle school Social Studies teacher Kelsey Orestis. Ms. Orestis shared that eighth grader Silvi Emami-Griefendorf won the Junior Scholastic “Where’s Mapman?” competition. Silvi has previously placed in the top 25 in her 6th and 7th grade years. This year, she placed first out of 1500 submissions nationwide.

The RSU 78 Board of Education met at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 5:30PM. Ms. Heidi Deery presented on eDynamic Learning, which is a research-based, online learning platform for curricula on many subjects. The guidance office is using the section on career development. The platform is providing exposure to students for different career paths.

Our culture tends to embrace the “bigger is better” mantra. Bigger homes, cars, social media followings, moments—we want everything to be unforgettable, monumental, picturesque. And yet it hasn’t been the big, exciting moments of my life that have shaped me. The little moments have proved the most meaningful. How sweet it is to look back at my childhood and discover the small things were the biggest. My parents understood this well.

All through the month of November, fourth and fifth grade students have not been quietly reading in the library. In fact, it’s been the total opposite as they have been making a parade. Based on Maine author Melissa Sweet’s book Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade, students in grades 4 & 5 have been creating, designing, building, coding, and then running their very own Thanksgiving Day parade.
