During the week of April 8th through 15th, I was presented with a unique opportunity. As part of a group of volunteers for Taglit/Birthright Israel Onward – all of either Jewish heritage or Jewish religious identity – I was able to spend time supporting Israel’s agriculture and produce industry, gaining an inside window into the workings of a diverse society.

RACECATRACECAT is a prospective multicenter RCT of 1400 patients comparing outcomes in patients with suspected ELVO triaged to the closest local stroke center vs those triaged directly to a TCC.19 The study was stopped early for futility as the median mRS score was 3 for each group (OR 1.03, 95% CI, 0.82 to 1.29), indicating that there was no outcome benefit for a direct to TCC triage program.

In 2018, George Friedman – the CEO of Geopolitical Futures (GPF), and formerly Stratfor – wrote an article called “Traveling Geopolitically”. The article, per its title, suggests that one way to evaluate a geopolitical situation is through on-the-ground travel and observation. When a North American or European reader thinks of traveling “geopolitically”, they are likely imagining travel to relatively distant locales – to Southeast Asia, to the Middle East, and so on.

According to a September 2023 article in Politico, immigration remains a major topic of contention in German politics. The article states, for example, that the hard-right, anti-immigration party AfD (Alternativ fur Deutschland) maintains strong polling as a result of its stance on the topic. According to the same article, the AfD is perceived by German authorities as a security threat. Indeed, the AfD’s xenophobic rhetoric may sow the seeds for nativist political violence.
