    The annual Independence Day Fireworks extravaganza will take place, as scheduled, on Friday, July 4 at Ridge Ferry Park. The annual celebration, sponsored by Atrium Health Floyd, will see over 1,500 pyrotechnic shells explode from the top of Jackson Hill starting around 9:30 p.m., and will be performed by Zambelli Fireworks of New Castle, Penn. Ridge Ferry Park opens to the public at noon with food trucks and concessions available.

    The Rome-Floyd Development Authority did not receive a $500,000 grant it applied for to mitigate problems at the former O’Neill Manufacturing site on Anderson Street in North Rome. The seven-acre property was home to a wood product manufacturing business until it closed in 2000 following the death of its last chief executive officer, Sean O’Neill. The family-owned company was founded in 1878 in Atlanta and moved to its 102 Anderson St. address in Rome around the turn of the last century.
