Everything from cars to bikes to coolers is getting new electric components even while their legacy counterparts remain on the market. For example, you can get an electric wine opener even though regular elbow grease wine openers are still available. The same is true for the trusty old icebox cooler, which now comes with battery and charging options, letting you keep food and drinks chilled on the go for longer.  At least, that's how it's supposed to work in theory.

In the U.S., we have a pretty basic selection of smartphones to choose from. Yes, we have foldables like the Moto Razr+ and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and we even have a phone or two with a stylus, like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, so that's fun. But when you look across the pond (on either side) there is a wealth of smartphone variety to be had, that the U.S. simply doesn't see, which is a shame. If variety is the spice of life, the U.S. phone market could definitely use some seasoning.

Pebble smartwatches were once the darling of wearable devices and, at the time, one of the more successful Kickstarter campaigns in the site's history up to that point. Put simply, the Pebble smartwatch was an e-paper based smartwatch with a bunch of novel (at the time) functionality like displaying notifications and fun watchfaces.

Mobile World Congress, as the name suggests, brings together many of the world's phone makers into one venue to show their wares. Yes, you get Samsung and Motorola showcases, representing the offerings headed to the U.S. You also get a number of foreign phone makers such as Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, and so many more offering especially unique mobile tech. Meaning no disrespect to our friends on domestic shores, U.S. phones tend to skew toward the more vanilla offerings.
