I am always rooting for the independent perfumer who trains tirelessly. To make up for what they didn’t receive at some French institution whose grounds are studded with generations of perfumemaking knowledge, these artisans have to match their creativity with plenty of resourcefulness. Hong Kong-based Michael Wong, perfumer & founder of One Day, decided in 2016 that if he couldn’t study in France, he’d find the next best thing: he'd train with someone who went to those renowned institutions.
