Rafael Devers let it fly Thursday, both in the ballpark and in the clubhouse. Devers provided the Red Sox’s most impactful bat in Boston’s series finale against the Texas Rangers. The three-time All-Star laced an RBI single and blasted a solo home run en route to his team’s 5-0 victory at Fenway Park. But before Alex Cora’s club set out for Kansas City, Devers made even more noise with his words.

Even though the Knicks lead the Celtics 2-0 in the teams’ Eastern Conference semifinals series, Charles Barkley believes Game 3 is a must-win for New York. The Hall of Famer views Boston as a far superior team that only needs one victory to take off. Kendrick Perkins, however, couldn’t have a more different view of the best-of-seven set. Perkins was openly critical of the Celtics after each of the series’ first two contests, and deservedly so.

The Red Sox still are figuring things out at first base, but we now know one perceived option is off the table. Following Boston’s shutout win over the Texas Rangers on Thursday, Rafael Devers made it very clear that he wasn’t interested in becoming Triston Casas’ replacement. Charles Barkley believes Saturday afternoon’s game at Madison Square Garden is a must-win, but not for the team you might think. After the Knicks stunned the Celtics again Wednesday and took a 2-0 lead in the teams’ best-of-seven series, Barkley couldn’t help but look back on his playing days. On two occasions in his Hall of Fame career, Barkley-led teams took 2-0 series leads in the playoffs before ultimately losing the set.

Rafael Devers found himself in familiar territory Thursday afternoon. Much to his chagrin, Devers in spring training had to talk about the Red Sox moving him from third base to designated hitter in wake of Alex Bregman’s arrival. Triston Casas’ season-ending knee injury produced a similar situation, as an irked Devers made it clear he wasn’t interested in relocating to first base.
