MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech will celebrate the life and achievements of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday, Jan 21, as the university holds its annual commemoration of the civil rights icon. The public is invited but free registration is required. Things kick off at with the Breaking Barriers Cocktail Reception from 5-6:30 p.m. on the third floor of Evans Library, home to the powerful “Breaking Barriers” mural featuring Dr. Julius Montgomery.

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech is the top traditional online university in Florida according to new rankings from Newsweek magazine that also rate the Melbourne-based university as a top 30 online school nationwide. For its America’s Top Online Colleges 2025, Newsweek worked with the firm Statista to conduct a survey of more than 10,000 individuals who have used online courses to obtain an academic degree or knowledge for jobs or hobbies.

In 2016, Ohio voted by an eight-point margin to send Donald Trump to the White House. And in a pattern that became familiar during the 2024 elections but was a surprise then, that same year, residents of Cincinnati overwhelmingly backed a ballot measure that appeared to be the antithesis of the Trump campaign: a universal preschool tax that would largely benefit low-income Black families.

It is with sadness we report the passing of Dr. Ralph D. Kimberlin, a fearless test pilot and accomplished aerospace engineer who over the last 12 years shared his expertise with faculty and students as he helped Florida Tech develop its flight test engineering program. He was 84. A designated engineering test pilot for more than a half-century, Dr. Kimberlin flew more than 250 different aircraft over his career.
