When Roy Bradley was told he had cancer in his lungs and liver, his first thought was he couldn’t face chemotherapy and should prepare for his death. A few years earlier in 2012, the 90-year-old retired rail engineer, from Crewe in Cheshire, had seen his wife Mary suffer throughout her chemotherapy treatment before succumbing to pancreatic cancer aged 77. ‘When they told me that I had cancer I thought “that’s it” as I didn’t want chemotherapy,’ says Roy.
