A record number of smokers have become smoke free since April 2024, thanks to support from Public Health Isle of Man’s ‘Stop Smoking Service’. On average, 18 people per month have successfully quit smoking during the past year. Between April 1 2024 and March 31 2025, 215 out of 314 clients who set a quit date successfully stopped smoking. This is a 69% success rate for the service.

The Chief Minister Alfred Cannan at Douglas War Memorial (Isle of Man Government)The Isle of Man marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a number of different events and memorials across the island on Thursday. The Chief Minister Alfred Cannan led two acts of remembrance earlier to mark the anniversary, firstly laying a wreath at the war memorial in Government Office at 11.30am where he was joined by Ministers and Members of Tynwald.

Lucy Buxton, CEO of the Manx Deaf Society (-)The Manx Deaf Society are set to host an information session as part of Deaf Awareness Week. The session will take place at the society’s building on 3 Somerset Road in Douglas at 10am on Friday, May 9. The session will look to educate and engage the island’s wider community so they are more aware of the issues that deaf people regularly face. Deaf Awareness Week began on Monday, May 5 and will run until Sunday, May 11.
