April 18, 2025 The Boston City Council has emphatically backed a plan to waive a special election for the seat currently held by District 7 Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson, who is expected to plead guilty to federal corruption charges on May 5 and to resign from the council at an as-yet-unspecified date. Before it can take effect, the home rule petition — which passed 9-3 on Friday — needs to be signed by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and then passed by the Massachusetts Legislature.

A new bill under consideration in the Massachusetts Senate would ramp up protections for individuals receiving and providing reproductive and gender-affirming care in Massachusetts in response to perceived threats from the Trump administration, according to Sen. Cindy Friedman (D-Arlington), who recently filed the legislation. “It’s clear that the government and the Republicans are after both women’s reproductive healthcare and gender-affirming care,” Friedman told GBH News.

April 11, 2025 In her ongoing fight to audit the Massachusetts Legislature, state Auditor Diana DiZoglio took the unusual step of waiving attorney-client privilege and releasing approximately 150 pages of documents that include exchanges between her office and the office of Attorney General Andrea Campbell. As the Massachusetts House and Senate have resisted audit efforts, DiZoglio has repeatedly turned to the attorney general’s office, urging Campbell to compel the chambers to comply.
