HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — A person died in a house fire off Riverside Drive early Thursday morning, despite the swift response from local firefighters. The Rio Dell Fire Department, firefighters from the Fortuna Fire Department, and officers with the Rio Dell Police Department responded to a burning home on the 1000 block of Riverside Dr. at 7:17 a.m.While responding to the scene, officials said a neighbor rescued a person from the home.

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — Route 36 remains open east of Swimmer’s Delight as crews continue responding to a slide. Recent progress has allowed for a reduction in weekday delays, which are now down to 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. At all other times, travelers should expect 10-minute delays. Earlier closures lasting up to two hours were necessary to complete major work, including helicopter operations.
