The Mesa Community College baseball team’s season ended Friday after the Thunderbirds lost the Region I semifinals series against Gateway Community College, ending their 2024 season. The Thunderbirds lost the first two games of a three game series against the Geckos despite earning the number one seed. The first game took place on May 3, ending in a 3-0 defeat for MCC.

The Mesa Community College track and field teams prepare to send 39 athletes to compete in the National Junior College Athletics Association national championship tournament in West Monroe, Louisiana from May 16-18. The women’s track and field team would head into NJCAA nationals ranked seventh in the country by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while the men’s team is ranked 12th in the country as of the May 8 edition of the rankings..

United States Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen visited Mesa Community College Saturday as part of her three day trip to Arizona to highlight the Biden administration’s efforts to further strengthen the economy and develop workforces across the country. Yellen’s visit began in the Technology building in the southeast corner of the Southern and Dobson MCC campus where she was taken on a tour and shown equipment for use in manufacturing, automation and construction.

The United States Department of the Treasury announced Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen will visit Mesa Community College on Saturday, May 4 to tour automation and engineering labs. Yellen will be joined by Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and Mesa Mayor John Giles. The visit is part of a two day trip Yellen will be taking to Arizona to highlight the Biden administration’s economic agenda and workforce development efforts, according to a release from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
