KIMBALL, S.D. — The KWL Nationals built a six-run lead in the seventh and held off a late rally to defeat the Springs Owls 7-5 on Sunday, June 15, in Kimball. Mitch Price struck out 10 over six innings, allowing just one run and four hits for the Nationals. KWL’s offense broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with three runs, then added three more in the seventh behind home runs from Jaxon Christensen and Dylanger Pierson.

TYNDALL, S.D. — Kenadee Kozak pitched five innings and hit a three-run homer to lead Bon Homme past Viborg-Hurley 16-4 in the Class B SoDak 16 on Tuesday. Bon Homme scored 11 runs in the second inning and added five more in the fourth. Kozak struck out seven and allowed three hits. Nevaeh Myers had three hits and two RBIs. The Cavaliers (12-3) advance to the state tournament June 5 in Aberdeen. Viborg-Hurley ends its season 7-11.

Capital St. The Mitchell Republic has combed through archives at the Carnegie Resource Center gathering a collection of photographs spanning the decades to commemorate the history of the high school building, which has served generations of students, teachers and the Mitchell community.

MITCHELL — Behind a dominant pitching performance from Tyler Sanderson, No. 2-seeded Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery held off No. 7 Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Drake Field to advance in the Region 3B baseball tournament. With the win, Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery advanced to the Region 3B championship game scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner earns a spot in the Class B state tournament.
