Honeybees could be given a boost after scientists developed nutritious "power bars" to combat food shortages caused by a dearth of wildflowers. Honeybee deaths in the United States hit a record high last year, with commercial beekeepers losing 62 per cent of their colonies. The previous high was a 50.8 per cent mortality rate in 2020-21. And in winter of 2023-24, just over a fifth of the Dutch population of honeybee colonies died.
