I have been working on a project on creating technology that helps people with disabilities. Through this project, I have expanded my knowledge on what disability is. Why is the awareness of disability important to a person like me or you, who is a non- disabled person? Ultimately, why does it matter? My research introduced me to a great professor who suffered a stroke in 2011, and now has hemiplegia.

Growing up, films became an integral part of my life. Every Sunday, watching films on the television with my dad was a memory I'll treasure forever. I might find them unfunny and illogical at this stage of life, but they were once very critical to the Indian pop culture. California may become the first state in the US to have caste as a protected group in the state’s anti-discrimination laws. It is significant that the bill to do so has been introduced in California, the fifth biggest economy in the world and home to over 6 million Asian Americans. It is also one of the places where caste discrimination in the US came to the forefront, with the Laki Bali Reddy case and the more recent Cisco lawsuit.

California may become the first state in the United States of America to legally ban caste discrimination. Senator Aisha Wahab introduced a bill on Wednesday, March 22, to include caste as a protected category in the state’s anti-discrimination laws. If passed by the Governor of California, the move may benefit a large South Asian population that lives in the state which is home to some of the biggest tech companies in the world.
