Photo by Abbie Parr/Getty Images In December 2021, the Portland Trail Blazers sent their then President of Basketball Operations Neil Olshey packing after he was found to have violated workplace conduct. The NBA executive had been the subject of an investigation prompted by concerns and complaints from within the organization. Joe Cronin, who joined the franchise in 2006 and served under Olshey, was named interim General Manager before securing the role permanently in May 2022.

Photo by Alika Jenner/Getty Images The Portland Trail Blazers made a surprise trade in the hours before the 2024 NBA Draft, securing forward Deni Avdija from the Washington Wizards. Parting with two first-round picks, two seconds, and Malcolm Brogdon, General Manager Joe Cronin arguably snared the franchise’s best player this season. The take was informed by the 21-year-old’s rookie season and the lack of progress made through the early part of his sophomore campaign.

Photo by Soobum Im/Getty Images Matisse Thybulle made his long-awaited season debut earlier this week after missing the first 67 games of the Portland Trail Blazers’ campaign. While the team had managed without him, the absence of Thybulle’s defensive prowess had been noticeable. The 28-year-old underwent a procedure during the preseason to address inflammation in his right knee. In late November, he suffered an ankle sprain as part of his ramp-up to return to the court.
