An Air India Boeing 787-8 has crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport in India, according to local authorities. Flight AI-171 was bound for London Gatwick Airport. There were 242 people on board the aircraft, including two pilots and 10 cabin crew, a statement from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said. It is not yet known if there are survivors. News footage shows clouds of black smoke rising from the crash site and the tail of the aircraft protruding from a building.
