The George Bass Surfboat Marathon is a 190-kilometre race over seven days from Batemans Bay to Eden. It attracts participants from across Australia and New Zealand, particularly from surf life saving clubs. Rowers completed the race, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, on Saturday. Hundreds of rowers covered in sweat, salt, sand and tears have completed what is considered to be the toughest and longest surfboat race in the world.

Oyster farmers on the New South Wales south coast believe this could be the biggest and busiest Christmas in nearly a decade. They are in the thick of harvesting oysters from their estuaries and grading them ready for sale. Shane Buckley, who is based in Wapengo, expects to sell about 300 dozen a day to local customers and major cities over the peak festive period, and that is being conservative. "The two weeks in the lead-up to Christmas are just nuts. Whatever you've got, you can sell," he said.

A police officer who fatally tasered 95-year-old Clare Nowland in an aged care home last year will not be taken into custody after a New South Wales Supreme Court judge dismissed a detention application. Kristian White, 34, tasered the great-grandmother at Yallambee Lodge aged care facility in Cooma in the Snowy Mountains on May 17, 2023. The 95-year-old was using a walker and holding a knife at the time.

A police officer who unlawfully killed a 95-year-old woman by shooting her with a taser has been suspended from the NSW Police Force without pay as he arrives at court to fight custody. Senior Constable Kristian White was found guilty of manslaughter in the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney yesterday. Arguments will soon begin in the Supreme Court regarding whether White should be thrown behind bars before being formally sentenced.
