Kenya's opposition leader, Raila Odinga, will be Kenya's special envoy to South Sudan, in a new sign of a blossoming political friendship with his former rival, President William Ruto. Nation.Africa understands, Mr Odinga was to fly to Juba on Friday morning to meet with South Sudan's President Salva Kiir and his rival Riek Machar, who was placed under house arrest this week, escalating tensions. He will press for de-escalation.

Serbs were knocking on the door of Nairobi on Thursday in protest at Kenya's decision to recognise the independence of Kosovo, a region in southeastern Europe that has been seeking independence from Belgrade for two decades. The beef was that Kenya had on Wednesday endorsed that independence, with President William Ruto proceeding to proclaim Kenya’s intent to establish diplomatic ties and recognise Kosovo passports.

Kenya has proclaimed its recognition of the Republic of Kosovo and promised to establish diplomatic ties with the southeastern European country. On Wednesday, President William Ruto said Kenya will also recognise Kosovar travel documents. Kosovo declared her independence on February 17, 2008. Pleased that Kenya has recognized the state of Kosova today. I extend my gratitude to my friend @WilliamsRuto for this decision, warmly welcomed by all Albanians.

Sudan has sued the United Arab Emirates at a top United Nations court—the International Court of Justice (ICJ). It accuses the Gulf country of enabling genocide and other crimes against humanity by arming the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a controversial rebel group that recently launched a parallel Sudanese government in Kenya. The case is expected to have repercussions on future relations between Khartoum and Abu Dhabi.
