Back in 2019, the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden State Art Collections) announced an exciting new discovery – a hidden image of a Cupid in Vermeer’s Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window, 1657-1659. After several years of conservation, the museum revealed the painting’s new appearance in 2021. On May 7, 2019, the museum gave the public its first glimpse of the partially-uncovered Cupid.

Theodore Christopher Marceau (1859-1922) was an American photographer who pioneered the creation of a national chain of photographic studios in the United States in the 1880s. He founded “Marceau Studios” in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston and he quickly became one of the most widely known photographers in the country. He also proposed an idea still in use today: copyright symbol. Theodore Marceau‘s career as a photographer began when he was 22.
