As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday next year, a small team of local historians is working to ensure that all aspects of the country’s history are acknowledged. They are the North Fork Project, and they’ve made it their mission to uncover the names and lives of the enslaved Africans who were brought to Long Island. So far, the group of four has found at least the names of around 450 enslaved people on Long Island, out of what they believe to be at least 900.

Advocates and survivors of the attacks on September 11, 2001, have reacted with concern and anger.

Last month, the Donald Trump Administration ordered New York state to end congestion pricing by March 21. The deadline has now been extended for 30 days after New York officials showed no signs of stopping the tolls. The controversial program, which launched on Jan. 5, requires passenger and small commercial vehicles to pay an extra $9 to enter Lower Manhattan during peak periods. United States Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the extension on social media Thursday afternoon.
