A Hempstead man has been convicted of murder in the death of a man who intervened during a robbery attempt at a Hempstead restaurant in 2022, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced on Thursday. Deshawn Martin, 28, was found guilty of 12 felonies, including murder in the first degree and six counts of robbery in the first degree, along with menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

A man was injured after he drove his pickup truck into the Locust Valley Fire Department's headquarters on Buckram Road Wednesday night, authorities said. The unidentified driver was pulled from the wreckage just after the crash about 6:35 p.m. by firefighters who had gathered at the department's fire house for a meeting, said 1st Deputy Chief James Bonislawski of the Locust Valley Fire Department. The driver had to be pulled from the vehicle as it caught fire, Bonislawski said.

While Long Island's air quality is in the moderate range, state officials issued an air quality health advisory on Wednesday for New York City and other nearby areas due to increased levels of ozone. The air quality advisory, in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday, urges people to "limit strenuous outdoor activity in the afternoon and early evening when ozone levels are the highest," according to a news release from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
