S Korean firms advance country's largest CCS project

South Korea's state-owned Korea National Oil (KNOC) and domestic firm Hyundai Engineering and Construction have appointed domestic engineering firmsto design what they described as the country's largest CCS project. The facility will be built at the depleted Donghae gas field off the east coast of Korea. They contracted HD Korea Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering to develop the subsea CO2 injection system, and contracted HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to develop the facility's offshore platform.

The UK has taken a step forward with plans to fund its hydrogen subsidy schemes, as it announced a new plan to raise funds by levying an extra charge on companies using the UK's natural gas pipeline infrastructure. Westminster gave few details, but could release more in the coming days, as the UK Parliament is set to resume work on the lengthy Energy Bill on 5 September, which will contain the provisions for the possible hydrogen levy.

The consortium developing Porthos — the Port of Rotterdam and Dutch state-owned companies EBN and Gasunie — said last week that they would take a final investment decision and start construction as soon as the permits were secured.
