    No stranger to Summerstage, Patrice Roberts returned to Rumsey Playfield for the “I Am Woman” concert on Saturday, May 17 – a nonstop 2-hour show featuring major names from across the world of Soca. Born in Toco, Trinidad, Patrice Roberts has been a staple of the Caribbean music scene for 20+ years. She rose to national attention when her song “The Islands” with her cousin Bunji Garlin was used in a tourism campaign for Trinidad and Tobago.

    Bab L’ Bluz played their first, and maybe last, full set in New York at Joe’s Pub on Friday, April 19. Formed in Marrakesh, Morocco in 2018, the band calls its music Psychedelic Blues. By taking hard rock riffs and multi-minute distorted solos the likes of AC/DC or Pink Floyd, and combining them with traditional Moroccan folk tradition and instruments, and then fusing that with broader North African musical influence Bab L’ Bluz’s songs push genres.

That’s exactly what the Finnish DJ and visual artists did while surrounded by 1990s nostalgia and early internet-age visual effects during his hour set. If you didn’t follow last year’s Eurovision (Europe’s international song competition), you may not have heard of Windows95man.
