ENTHUSIASTIC volunteers who want to crew or become skippers on a canal boat can jump into action in Uppermill. Huddersfield Canal Society is holding an experience day when people can try their hand at steering the Little Blue Boat and find out more about getting involved. They said: “We are desperately in need of more volunteers to run the boat at weekends. Also, we would love to run the boats through the school holidays for the children both in Uppermill and Marsden.

OLDHAM Active is the first leisure provider in the UK to officially train and qualify its fitness team to deliver advice and guidance on GLP-1 weight loss medications. A group of 30 of the community leisure trust’s wellbeing and fitness team completed Future Fit’s new Navigating GLP-1 for Sport and Physical Activity Professionals training, covering the basics of GLP-1 medications, the science behind them and practical applications for fitness professionals.

THERE were celebrations for ‘thrilled’ students and staff at E-ACT The Oldham Academy North (TOAN) after their recent Ofsted report full of praise and compliments. Although this was an ungraded inspection – a routine visit for schools previously judged ‘Good’ to ensure standards have been maintained – inspectors found strong evidence that TOAN may have improved significantly across all areas since its last full inspection in 2020.
