Corn acres exceed soybeans again. U.S. farmers are shifting crop strategies in 2025, with corn once again taking the lead. According to USDA’s March Prospective Plantings report, total corn planted area for all purposes is expected to reach 95.3 million acres. That’s up 5 percent from 2024, an increase of 4.73 million acres. Plantings are forecast to rise or hold steady in 40 of the 48 estimating states, suggesting strong national confidence in corn profitability this year.

Amanda Patin serves on the editorial board of Seed World U.S. She holds a master’s degree in agricultural education and a thesis in entomology from the University of Arizona. In 2000, following her work in insecticide resistance with a publication in Nature, Amanda began working with seed testing at SGS North America, Inc. as the Contract Laboratory research director.

Seed World continues to celebrate women in the seed industry during Women’s History Month. Lesley Nakonechny is the one who puts together all those beautiful Seed World magazines. She’s an art director and graphic designer extraordinaire. Lesley graduated from Winnipeg’s Red River College with a diploma in graphic design. She gained experience as a production artist in the print industry before becoming layout editor for a newspaper servicing Manitoba’s vibrant Icelandic community.
