A light-filled bistro on the edge of Adelaide’s CBD, Sofia by Sans-Arc Studio is a study in adaptive reuse, breathing new life into a 1980s red brick office building. Located on the ground floor, the Mediterranean-inspired restaurant blends into the existing structure while standing out through its clean lines, corrugated facade and curved bullnose. Sofia marks the studio’s fifth hospitality venture, following their recent project, Part Time Lover.

Offering a striking juxtaposition between new and old, House B is a sensitive restoration of a heritage home in Melbourne’s eclectic inner-city suburb of Brunswick. Designed by Kart Projects and built in collaboration with the owners, the original building was a mismatched accumulation of renovations and extensions – accumulated over 60 years by its previous owners – with beautiful existing heritage features.

A deeply considered renovation of a charming terrace, Arch Nouveau by Studio KaaKi harmonises the heritage of the original building with contemporary details and improved functionality. Overseeing the reimagination of a 1980s house, the team made minimal interventions while highlighting the original architectural features of vaulted ceilings and sweeping curves.
