And while methane stays in the atmosphere for less time than carbon dioxide, it’s 80 times more toxic over 20 years, producing emissions that are literally killing the planet. I know this. I’ve edited countless stories that include some version of this sentence to illustrate how grotesque our consumption is, how oppressive the waste has become.
