    Family caregivers of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients in Kansas now can apply for respite support from a statewide program. The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services is providing the Kansas Respite for Alzheimer’s and Dementia program, or K-RAD, to provide funding to unpaid caregivers of people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. According to Alzheimer’s Association officials, in 2020 there were 55,000 Kansans older than 65 living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

Scott Fetgatter introduced House Bill 2426 last month to create a special license that would allow personnel from legacy TV stations and weather researchers affiliated with specified universities operating around severe thunderstorms, to act as emergency responders in the immediate aftermath of a tornado.
