New airports for Delhi NCR and MumbaiStories of Delhi and Mumbai airports being over capacity could well be passé in 2025. In Delhi NCR, the Noida International Airport (NMI), popularly called Jewar Airport, will tentatively launch operations on 17 April, 2025, with one terminal building and one runway operating, overall able to handle 12 million passengers. IndiGo and Akasa are expected to launch domestic flights from the airport on the first day.

IndiGo announced, in August, the launch of their new front-row-premium-cabin, which they don’t want to call Business Class directly, and named it IndiGo Stretch. IndiGo Stretch seats will be equipped on 45 A321neo aircraft, which will only be operated on 12 routes across India, said the airline’s CEO Pieter Elbers. Earlier this year, I had to make a quick trip to Seattle. With out and back within a week, business class was the best way to proceed on this trip. Seattle is on the Pacific Northwest, is a long route, and while Air India is “considering” launching flights on the Delhi – Seattle route, these haven’t materialised. This left me with an old friend, Emirates, to do the honours. The other option was Qatar Airways, which involved slumming it out in an IndiGo codeshare part of the way.
