Then, he began to give excuses before he stopped responding to their inquiries altogether.     Samuel Omofala, a student of the University of Ibadan, has won the ultimate prize in the 7th edition of the annual ‘Fisayo Soyombo inter-university essay competition organised by the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ibadan. Omofala, a second year Law student, stood out from amongst 113 applicants who submitted entries this year.

    On February 1, Nigerian journalist Sam Oma (not real name) booked a flight worth N220,000 with Air Peace for a round-trip from Abuja to Akure in Ondo State. The flight was scheduled for February 14. Just before Oma could travel, the airline cancelled his flight. Now, Oma’s appeals for a refund of his own money have continually fallen on Air Peace’s deaf ears. Oma told FIJ that he booked the flight for a burial ceremony of the father of a friend and colleague.

    Akin Smith (pseudonym), a Nigerian resident in the United Kingdom, has told FIJ he still wants the £9,000 Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, took from him in August 2024 for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) deal that fell through. Smith’s request is coming 24 hours after Olowu, a Nigerian doctor, accused similarly Kuti of refusing to refund £7,000 of the £10,000 he had been owing him since August 2024 from a similar deal.

    On Wednesday, Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, shared a video clip of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives detaining Usman Okai, a former House of Representatives member for the Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency. In the video, armed DSS officials entered an apartment. A few seconds later, they returned with a ruffled Okai and shoved him into a vehicle before zooming off. Sowore accused Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of orchestrating Okai’s arrest.
