Mercy Edward and Everest Edward paid N13.8 million to Elohor Moses Ibeh for three trucks of Dangote cement in 2024. He delivered just one. Then, he began to give excuses before he stopped responding to their inquiries altogether. Edward told FIJ that her husband used to be a distributor of Dangote cement until the company increased the minimum number of trucks a distributor must buy.

Samuel Omofala, a student of the University of Ibadan, has won the ultimate prize in the 7th edition of the annual ‘Fisayo Soyombo inter-university essay competition organised by the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ibadan. Omofala, a second year Law student, stood out from amongst 113 applicants who submitted entries this year.

On February 1, Nigerian journalist Sam Oma (not real name) booked a flight worth N220,000 with Air Peace for a round-trip from Abuja to Akure in Ondo State. The flight was scheduled for February 14. Just before Oma could travel, the airline cancelled his flight. Now, Oma’s appeals for a refund of his own money have continually fallen on Air Peace’s deaf ears. Oma told FIJ that he booked the flight for a burial ceremony of the father of a friend and colleague.

Akin Smith (pseudonym), a Nigerian resident in the United Kingdom, has told FIJ he still wants the £9,000 Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, took from him in August 2024 for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) deal that fell through. Smith’s request is coming 24 hours after Olowu, a Nigerian doctor, accused similarly Kuti of refusing to refund £7,000 of the £10,000 he had been owing him since August 2024 from a similar deal.

Customer Samuel Agba (pseudonym) took a N50,000 loan from the Cashrun loan app that operates under Flowood Lending Limited. For defaulting for just two days, the lending app threatened to post his obituary and hire cultists to get him. The same Flowood is approved by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. Number 20 on the “fully approved” section. Agba borrowed the N50,000 loan on February 9 with a high interest of N24,000 which was to be returned within seven days.

Rebecca Ochi (pseudonym), a PoS agent, erroneously transferred N900,000 to a United Bank for Africa account on February 4. Rather than place a restriction on the recipient’s account, UBA did nothing until Ochi got a court order. UBA refused to act throughout the period Ochi processed the order. The delay allowed the recipient withdraw the money. Ochi got to know Godfrey Chukwuemeka Okwudi, the UBA customer and recipient of the transfer, through her PoS business.
Wema Bank Helps Fraudster Slip Away by Ignoring Court Order

Emmanuel Chukwu, a realtor, lost N2.95 million to fraudsters through a Telegram group in August. He got a court order and police report for Wema Bank to place a restriction on the fraudsters bank account and also provide his details for investigation; the bank ignored both documents. The fraudster has since absconded and evade law enforcement. Chukwu told FIJ that he was added to a Telegram group, a currency exchange platform, unsolicited.
