رویکرد ارمنستان در رابطه با انتخاب متحدان و شرکای نظامی در سال‌های اخیر و پس از دوبار شکست نظامی در برابر رقیب دیرینش آذربایجان، رفته رفته دستخوش تغییر شد. این جمهوری پیش‌تر عضو شوروی سابق، تاکنون به طور سنتی متکی بر روسیه بود. اما پس از حمله برق‌آسای آذربایجان به ناگورنو-قره‌باغ (قره‌باغ کوهستانی) در سپتامبر سال گذشته و ضمیمه کردن این بخش به خاک خود، نیکول پاشینیان، نخست‌وزیر ارمنستان انفعال نیروهای حافظ صلح روس مستقر در منطقه را دلیل ناکامی نظامی کشورش دانست و از روسیه روی برگرداند.

In a plant nursery in northern Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, hundreds of pine, eucalyptus, olive and pomegranate saplings grow under awnings protecting them from the fierce summer sun. The nursery in Sarchinar in the Kurdish city of Sulaimaniyah is part of efforts to battle the destructive effects of deforestation in the region.
