Officials captured one in January at a store in Kona, sparking more fears of the animals gaining a foothold on the island and potential impacts on other species. A 6-pound possum was caught on January 6 outside a big box store in Kona. It was transported to Oahu for testing of rabies. It was the first one captured this year.

    In response to years of feral hogs causing extensive damage to property and agriculture in rural Oklahoma, Sen. Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, has introduced SB478, known as the Free to Hunt Feral Hogs bill. The proposed legislation aims to eliminate the need for permits to hunt feral hogs, allowing Oklahomans to protect their land, crops and livestock more freely. “Feral hogs are much more than just a nuisance. They are a threat to Oklahoma’s farms, ranches and livelihoods,” Deevers said.

    A new Montana wolf management plan would replace a 22-year-old version and include more data, research and analysis, according to state Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials. The state agency in February released a final environmental impact statement (EIS) about the controversial situation. The EIS analyzed potential environmental impacts from the statewide management of gray wolves.   Issuing the final EIS is a key step in a process that started in 2023, when FWP originally released the draft EIS.

    For the first time in more than 100 years, cougar cubs have been discovered living in the Michigan wild. State biologists on Wednesday confirmed the existence of two cougar cubs on private land in Ontonagon County in the western Upper Peninsula. The spotted cubs, believed to be 7 to 9 weeks old, were verified from photographic evidence of the cubs taken March 6 by a local resident.
