Despite coming to a close 3 seasons earlier than Sheridan wanted, the writer and creator crafted some of TV's greatest character arcs, and it's all thanks to his understanding of characters and story. When The Gilded Age returned for Season 2, it doubled down on everything that made Julian Fellowes’ magnificent period drama TV series so irresistible. The social skirmishes between the characters grew sharper while the historical threads became even more ambitious. When Yellowstone first premiered on the Paramount Network back in 2018, few, including myself, could've predicted the cultural juggernaut it would ultimately become. A neo-Western drama focusing on land and the weight and cost of legacy doesn't really scream modern TV sensation. Yet, Taylor Sheridan's family saga turned out to be just that: the flagship series of an entire franchise, and I'd even argue the single biggest reason the Paramount Network has any relevance at all.
