I suspect most middle-aged Americans had never heard of Character.AI until The New York Times ran the tragic story of how 14-year-old Sewell Setzer III committed suicide after an obsessive and toxic relationship with a character from the AI chatbot service. Setzer would spend several hours a day in his room chatting with an avatar based on Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. Their relationship was romantic and erotic at times.

I like to say that I was very homeschooled because we had goats. Milk goats to be exact. I drank goat’s milk daily, especially chocolate goat’s milk, which was very creamy. I love my home state of Alabama, which is known for many things, some good and some bad. It is the home state of two Major League Baseball (MLB) all-time greats: Henry Aaron and Willie Mays. The two baseball heroes, inextricably connected, were not fond of one another. And, sadly, as of this week, neither is with us any longer. Henry Aaron was born on February 5, 1934, in Mobile, Alabama, and died on January 22, 2021, at 86.

The Story: The Italian Supreme Court’s harassment of an evangelical church serves as a stark reminder that the ongoing threats to religious liberty often come from those who identify as Christians. The Background: For nearly a decade, Breccia di Roma, an evangelical congregation in Rome, has been embroiled in a legal battle with Italian tax authorities over recognizing their meeting place as a legitimate place of worship.
