In life, just as in sport and business, Celtic striker Saoirse Noonan knows the importance of showing initiative. The footballer turned entrepreneur (as founder of her own clothing business), clearly has an innate sense of resourcefulness. It's a trait that helped her throughout her life, but most recently last week, when she overcame an almost two year absence from the Ireland WNT when she was called up to the squad by manager Carla Ward.

There are few greater cult heroes in League of Ireland history than Joseph N'Do.The mercurial Cameroonian arrived in the league in 2003, when he arrived at St Patrick's Athletic. His career hitherto had seen him play in Switzerland, China, Saudi Arabia, and France - but Ireland was to become his home. Manchester United continued their good run of form in the Premier League as goals from Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes saw The Red Devils see off Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power. It was probably the most comfortable United have looked all season as both Hojlund and Garnacho both broke their substantial scoring droughts while Ayden Heaven was very impressive in his first Premier League start before he had to be stretchered off in the second half.

Newcastle have defeated Liverpool 2-1 and claimed their first-ever League Cup at Wembley Stadium. It was a cagey first half, devoid of many chances and opportunities as the two sides got to grips with each other. The brightest spark was that of Newcastle's Dan Byrne who proved an ever-present threat to Caoimhin Kelleher in the opening 45. He was duly rewarded for his aerial prowess when he delivered a bullet header seconds before the break to put Newcastle ahead.

Rangers have claimed a shock win at Celtic Park in a tantalising five-goal Old Firm derby at Celtic Park, defeating the league leaders 3-2 with an 88th-minute winner. The win for interim manager Barry Ferguson is the first time a Rangers manager has won their first Old Firm derby since 1991. Rangers showed they meant business from minute dot when Nicolas Raskin headed the side ahead from a corner just four minutes into the action in Glasgow.
