As the final hours tick off towards his first race of the 2025 season at De Brabantse Pijl, Remco Evenepoel has revealed the full extent of his injuries after his terrible December training crash, saying that if he had been a ball sports professional, his career would now be over. The Soudal-QuickStep rider was badly injured when he collided with a post office vehicle door during one of his first training rides of the winter. He fractured his right shoulder blade, ribs and right hand.

Greg LeMond has praised Tadej Pogačar's decision to ride Paris-Roubaix and said that he feels the UAE Team Emirates-XRG racer is more than able to win the Hell of the North today. Prior to Pogačar, LeMond is the last defending Tour de France champion to tackle Paris-Roubaix, back in 1991. He finished 55th. The American described Pogačar, one of 53 debutants in this year's Paris-Roubaix, as an outstanding talent with the capacity to win across the board.

João Almeida has claimed a stunning overall victory in the Itzulia Basque Country, shredding the GC field on a brutally tough day to both claim a second stage win and simultaneously become Portugal's first ever overall winner of the 101-year-old race. Enric Mas (Movistar) and Almeida attacked from a small lead group with 5.5kms to go, with Almeida then comfortably outsprinting Mas at the finish to take his second stage in three days.

A late change in the weather forecast for Paris-Roubaix could well now see dry, warm conditions for both races this weekend, although overnight rain showers could render the cobblestones more slippery for the men's event on Sunday. Earlier this week wet conditions had been forecast for Sunday's Paris-Roubaix, but that has now changed to expectations of much drier weather during the race itself, with any rain only falling on Saturday night.
