DragonForce 65 and DragonFlite 95 TT at Blithfield Sailing Club by Alastair Reid 14 Mar 18:07 GMT Blithfield Sailing Club held its third ever radio sailing event, and second TT event, over the 8-9th March 2025. The weather gods were kind and greeted the 37 competitors for DF65 and 36 for the DF95 classes with unseasonable but very welcome sunshine and a good breeze offering up to 18 knots on both days.

Blithfield Barrel 2024/25 - Overall by Alastair Reid 18 Feb 19:48 GMT This Sunday marked the grand finale of the legendary Blithfield Barrel series, with Round 4 drawing in 26 stalwarts, all braving a biting easterly wind. A steady 10 knots, gusting up to 17, swept across the dam, sending the wind chill plummeting. The sun was absent, but at least the rain held off—small mercies on a day like this.

Blithfield Barrel 2024/25 - Week 3 by Alastair Reid 14 Jan 04:57 GMT Ever wondered what drives dinghy sailors to don their winter garb and push their boat through the pack ice for a day's racing? Me too! However, 25 boats from as far away as Dorset hit the water (and ice) for the third round of the iconic Blithfield Barrel. Twenty-four hours earlier, you couldn't see the nearest race mark and nor was it moving, having been immobilised by the aforementioned frozen water.

Blithfield Barrel 2024/25 - Week 2 by Alastair Reid 11 Dec 15:32 GMT With Storm Darragh rampaging through the UK and wind speeds forecast to be upwards of 42 knots, a hurried discussion took place on Saturday afternoon about whether to cancel or not. The decision was to proceed as planned and make a final decision on the day. With the aid of the Club's anemometer, which is also broadcast live to the website, we were able to track the actual wind speed against the forecast.
