A court in Quezon City has convicted two bus drivers responsible for the road crash that killed former College of Mass Communication (CMC) professor Lourdes Simbulan, more popularly known as Chit Estella, a few weeks before her 13th death anniversary. In a decision dated April 22, Judge Ralph Lee of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 83 said drivers Daniel Espinosa and Victor Ancheta were guilty of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and homicide.

Waning staffer participation has become increasingly common among student-led newsrooms across the University of the Philippines (UP) System, setting up another barrier to covering issues efficiently. Based on reports to the 2024 UP Systemwide Alliance of Student Publications and Writer’s Organizations (UP Solidaridad) Congress held at UP Visayas, Miagao campus on Feb. 5, various campus publications discussed their struggles with getting their current members to cover events and write stories.
