    During the past two weeks, music copyright litigation involving Ed Sheeran has drawn a lot of attention on social media. The case is often referred to as “Ed Sheeran vs. Marvin Gaye,” which is misleading because it is not a battle between two legendary songwriters. The suit, instead, was brought by the heirs to the estate of Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the song “Let’s Get it On” with Gaye and passed away in 2003. This is common in music copyright litigation.
