The Norfolk City Council voted to adopt a resolution declaring an area between Highway 35 and Benjamin Avenue as blighted and substandard, paving the way to redevelop the area. The project was first introduced in a January 2024 subcommittee meeting to allow a study on the area for possible redevelopment. A developer, in this case Kelby Herman, takes on the financial responsibility to conduct that study.

The City of Norfolk held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Kohler Softball Complex on Thursday at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park. Nathan Powell, the city’s parks and recreation director, said there had always been the thought of making improvements to the area, which used to be filled only with gravel. While lockers had been added at Veterans Memorial Field, the Ta-Ha-Zouka location had no lockers.
