Two months into Israel’s total siege and now on the cusp of an Israeli campaign for the reconquest of Gaza, Palestinians in the enclave are trapped between starvation and a battle for survival. As Tel Aviv wields aid as a tool of war and collective punishment, no humanitarian aid has entered the Gaza Strip since 2 March, when a full blockade was imposed on the Palestinian territory, the longest halt of aid deliveries to the Strip since Israel launched its brutal war in October 2023.

In a fiery speech last Wednesday, Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas lashed out at Hamas, calling them "sons of dogs" and demanding that they release the remaining Israeli captives, disarm, and hand over control of Gaza to the PA. “Hamas has given the criminal occupation [Israel] excuses to commit its crimes in the Gaza Strip, the most prominent being the holding of hostages,” Mahmoud Abbas,  also known as Abu Mazen, said during a leadership conference in Ramallah.

The Trump administration is ending nearly all remaining American aid for Yemen after reversing food assistance cuts in over a dozen countries, except for Afghanistan and Yemen. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) warned that halting US funding for food could be a “death sentence” for millions. The cuts threaten to end food aid for 2.4 million people and stop nutritional support for 100,000 children, according to the WFP.
