    Sergio Villalva, the new head football coach at Mar Vista High School, has either played or coached for almost his entire life. Growing up, he played soccer and football in El Paso, TX. Villalva explained that football is huge in Texas, and playing for him was “a religious experience.” Villalva started football at eight years old and played through high school. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and was sent to boot camp in San Diego in 1983.

Imperial Beach Historical Society President John Rendine has spent over two years researching and combing through online newspaper archives.     Ali Aceituno took over WAVES, a soccer program at Ocean View Church open to everyone, in the fall of 2024 from former director Jake Roberts, who moved to the Pacific Northwest with his family. Roberts had created the program and has left it in good hands with Aceituno. WAVES is a U-12 co-ed soccer program that teaches positive Christian messages along with soccer. WAVES stands for Winning a Victory of Eternal Significance. Aceiutno and her family live in Imperial Beach.

    Lee Zeldin, the new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator, and new International Boundary and Water Commissioner (IBWC) Chad McIntosh visited the South Bay International Treatment Plant on April 22, followed by a tour of the problem areas connected to the sewage crisis. Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre was also present and had a chance to meet both Zeldin and McIntosh to discuss the plight of the South Bay residents and their struggle with health and economic problems.
