Per rendere le comunicazioni più credibili i truffatori hanno escogitato un nuovo metodo; tramite l’utilizzo di un indirizzo di posta elettronica certificata (Pec) comunicano a ignari utenti un mancato pagamento, o un servizio in scadenza, o, ancora, la sottoscrizione di un contratto. Il destinatario della mail è indotto a credere alla legittimità della comunicazione in virtù della veste ufficiale che questa ricopre.
