Green School of International & Public Affairs and an MS in mass communication from CARTA and has since built a career on seeing around technological corners. FIU will hold its annual Holocaust & Genocide Awareness Week, from Jan. 23- 30, with a remembrance ceremony and a series of events that include personal testimonials, a film, lectures and panel discussions. Events will take place on both campuses and elsewhere in the local community, and all are open to the public at no charge. The Green School’s impressive new building adds a “West Wing” to its original facility, thereby uniting most of the school’s eight departments and 18 international centers, institutes and programs under one roof.

Joanne Pérodin, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Public Policy and Administration at the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs, is among 12 members recently appointed to the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council. Established in 2021, the council provides recommendations on current and historic environmental justice matters.

FIU students are studying Mandarin Chinese in Taiwan as part of a new study abroad program. The four are attending a four-week intensive-language program at Shih Chien University (SCU) Chinese Language Center in Taipei. Each student received a $2,500 stipend from the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy to support their participation.

FIU’s award-winning Model UN (MUN) team has for the 13th consecutive year has placed in the Top 10 nationally. The program is based in the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs. This past year, the team competed in 13 conferences - hosted by schools as diverse as the University of Chicago, Boston University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, New York University and the College of William & Mary - and delegates received more than 40 individual awards.

June 6 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The military operation that would play a decisive role in the outcome of World War II began on that day in 1944 when 133,000 troops from predominantly the United States and British Commonwealth invaded five beaches on the coast of Normandy, France. They relied on combined land, air and sea power during what became an 11-month battle against German forces. More than 73,000 Allied troops died during that time, and more than twice as many were wounded.

The Monument Lab, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit public art and history studio, has awarded a grant to the Department of History at FIU’s Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs to raise the visibility of Miami’s HIV/AIDS history by activating and organizing community-engaged planning for a series of local AIDS memorials. FIU’s efforts are led by Julio Capó, project lead and associate professor of history, and Dan Royles, associate professor of history.

ABSTRACT Despite aggressive multimodal treatment that typically includes definitive or adjuvant radiation therapy (RT), locoregional recurrence rates approach 50% for patients with locally advanced human papillomavirus (HPV)-negative head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Thus, more effective therapeutics are needed to improve patient outcomes. We evaluated the radiosensitizing effects of ATR inhibitor (ATRi) BAY 1895344 in preclinical models of HNSCC.
