Additional words by Amie Stone Storm Éowyn was a record breaking storm that produced ferocious winds that took no mercy as it battered the UK and Ireland leaving thousands without power alongside dozens of school closures and extensive travel disruption. Tragically, a man from Portrush, Northern Ireland, died during the storm which saw gusts in excess of 100mph ripping through the landscape during Northern Ireland's first ever red warning.

Plans will be dampened on one of December's busiest weekends in the run up to Christmas as strong winds and severe gales put Christmas markets and outdoor illuminations at risk of destruction. Storm Darragh will turn warnings Red in Wales and through the Bristol Channel tomorrow. This weather is expected to bring a danger to life risk and the Met Office advise people in these areas to take action to keep themselves safe.

By Alex Beresford and Amie Stone The Met Office has issued several weather warnings as low pressure brings a stormier end to this week. The yellow weather warnings are widespread, advising of heavy rain and strong winds with gusts in exposed areas likely to surpass 70mph. The first warning begins in north-west Scotland cautioning high winds that could cause local disruption until 9am on Thursday.

The rumours are true. A heatwave is on the way next week and while it's a little uncertain as to how long it will last, this news is more than welcome. Especially given the underwhelming weather conditions we've had to endure so far this month. Temperatures have been hiding between below average, to average, but the mercury is set to rise and in turn, raise our spirits. Over the next few days temperatures will gradually increase as high pressure moves in temporarily.
